Andrew MacKenzie.Much loved and much wanted 2nd son of Lindsey and John and baby brother of Robbie
and much loved grandson to Andy and Moira Adams,Annie and Donald MacKenzie and Ronnie and Nell
Mackenzie.Born too early on 6th Jan 2008, lived for 12 precious minutes.
We found out at the 20 week scan that he had a serious heart condition called hypoplastic left heart
syndrome(HLHS)which basically meant Andrew only had half a heart.We decided to carry on with the
pregnancy and hoped that surgery could maybe help.4 weeks later on New Years Eve,we found out that
he also had a genetic condition called DiGeorge syndrome,which can cause problems with any organ in
the body,facial deformities,behavioural probs,learning difficulties and psychiatric problems.It
caused Andrews heart problem and we were told that with both these conditions that Andrew could not
survive.
One week later on the 6th jan 2008,I was induced.I was in labour for 8 1/2 hrs.Andrew was born at
6.20pm,he weighed 1lb 14oz.He gave a big gasp,but didn't really breathe much.We felt his heart
beating,but at 6.32pm his heart stopped.
He looked perfect,except for some bruising.He was beautiful and looked just like his big brother
when he was a baby.
4 days later on the 10th Jan,Andrew was buried beside his great great grandparents,great
grandparents and their daughter,margaret who had died aged 3 days.We wanted him to be with his
family,so he wasn't on his own.
We love and miss Andrew so much.He will always be in our hearts.

My Mum is a survivor,
Or so I've heard it said.
But I can hear her crying at night,
When all others are in bed.
I watch her lay awake at night,
And go to hold her hand.
She doesn't know I'm with her,
To help her understand.
But like the sands on the beach,
That never wash away...
I watch over my surviving mum,
Who thinks of me each day.
She wears a smile for others...
A smile of disguise!
But through Heaven's door I see,
Tears flowing from her eyes.
My mum tries to cope with death,
To keep my memory alive.
But anyone who knows her knows,
It is her way to survive.
As I watch over my surviving mum,
Through Heaven's open door...
I try to tell her that angels,
Protect me forevermore.
I know that doesn't help her...
Or ease the burden she bears.
So if you get a chance, go visit her...
And show her that you care.
For no matter what she says...
No matter what she feels,
My surviving mum has a broken heart,
That time won't ever heal.
Babies are Angels that fly to the earth,
Their wings disappear at the time of their birth
One look in their eyes and we're never the same
They're part of us now and that part has a name
That part is your heart and a bond that won't sever
Our Babies are Angels, we love them forever xxx
